Gearing up for possible hurricane coverage

Covering the first evacuee shelter to open in Monroe

Tropical Storm Isaac is brewing in the gulf threatening to become a hurricane and barrel right through New Orleans and straight up to Monroe. It is terrifying for many people, but as a journalist with my first big girl reporter job, I am excited to be covering the event. I don’t want anything bad to happen to anyone or to any businesses or homes, but it is events like these that are a reminder at how helpful the media can be.

In Caldwell Parish discussing hurricane preps.

Media outlets are being used as mouth pieces for local leaders and organizations that are trying to help people, which is a great thing.  We’ll have to see what happens, but I intend to go all in with our Isaac coverage and stay at the station working until the sun comes up in clear skies and everything is settled down.
